What did you bargain for?

I just realized that the two books I’ve been using most recently (Think and Grow Rich and Life Is What You Make It) both quote the same poem:

I bargained with Life for a Penny,
and Life would pay no more.
However, I begged at evening
When I counted my scanty store.

For Life is a just employer,
He will give you what you ask,
But once you have set the wages,
Why, you must bear the task.

I worked for a menial’s hire,
only to learn, dismayed,
That any wage I had asked of Life,
Life would have willingly paid.

Jesse Rittenhouse

Weird, isn’t it?

What did you bargain for? What are you going to bargain for for the future?

Satisfied

Kind of unexpected I feel kind of satisfied.

Unexpected because I was not able to finish my project this week. Still satisfied because i know I worked hard enough on it, so I did everything I could.

So yes, I seem to be learning to be more satisfied if i know i did my best, did everything that I was capable doing.

I still have the feeling I could do more, but I am starting to realize that i would need other people to make that happen, so indeed be a leader. One person ‘only’ has 24 hours in a day and also needs rest.

So yes, even if did your best and that is all you can do.

So how to inspire

The last few days I have been thinking about how to find better ways to inspire people related to this website. During some research on inspiration I found a page that said something that you should inspire yourself. Maybe that is possible or good or something like that, but what I miss is inspiration from other people, so that’s what I want to give: give inspiration to other people.

So yes, I started to send daily e-mails with inspiring quotes, but still, I want to do more. I want people to find inspiration through this website, be inspired by me or by other people.

So not sure how to do that, but if you want to receive my daily e-mails with inspirational quotes just let me know through info@inspiration-for-success.com. And if you have ideas how to inspire other people through this website, please let me know. One thing I have in mind is to connect people through this website, but need to add some functionality for that. But of course you can also e-mail me for that, either whether you need someone to inspire you or if you want to inspire other people.

Anyhow, in the mean time just look around you and you will see many people who would appreciate being inspired by you, maybe especially the people you wouldn’t think they would like or need it.

The tenth ball

The last few days I have been thinking a lot about a story in one of the book Life Is What You Make It. The story is about a boy who did not feel inspired by his dad. And I recognize so much in that story. The boy tells that he and his dad played ‘play catch’ with each other, but that his dad never let him catch the tenth ball. It’s a similar feeling I have as I had the feeling I could never win from my dad, not with anything, even though one day I was able to win from him with chess, but it was only once.

It is so easy for a dad to ‘always win’, to never let his son catch the tenth ball. But the effect can be dramatic.

The boy from the story and also I know that our dads of course meant well, had their reasons to be so hard on their sons. I guess they wanted to harden their sons, prepare them for life or so.

But same like the boy in the story, I still have the feeling i can never win, although I am working hard now to get over that. And that’s also the story of my life, that I ‘never won’.

So yes, time for me to get over that, but please dads, be careful. Maybe better inspire in a positive way, like ‘You can do it!’ and let your son catch the ball, maybe a difficult ball, but make sure he catches it.
