Plant seeds

After my search for the daily quote I kept on reading the page and found the following quote:

“Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant.” – Robert Louis Stevenson

It made me think, made me feel a bit embarrassed as, I guess like most people, I mostly focus on things I want, on things I need.

Of course I think I also plant quite some seeds, like writing a post every day for this website. But looking at the quote, at the end of the day I think in general I tend to count the reaping, not what I have given or sown. I tend to look at the statistics and feeling disappointed that the site is not being found, instead of thinking I may have just have meant something for one person by sending my daily quote. I tend to think about the content that is not yet there instead of thinking of the little things I improved or changed. Or even the one person who might have found something useful on the site.

So yes, there is a lot behind that quote. Many things are just a matter of perspective and there is only so much one person can do on a day. And receiving things or harvesting depends on so many things we don’t really control.

So let’s look a bit more on even the smallest seed we have planted today, or yesterday, and be happy about it, feel satisfied about it. As maybe that’s what life is all about, the little things.

And let’s not forget that planting even one little seed every day would mean a whole forest of small trees after one year and may be a whole rain-forest that even multiplies and takes care of itself after ten or twenty years.

And nothing to reap there, but a lot to enjoy walking in the rain-forest or just looking at it or just knowing it’s there.

Best site on inspiration for success

Based on the idea of Seth Godin that with anything you do you better be the best in the world, I want this site the best website in the world on inspiration for success. And it seems to pays off to be the best in the world, as I was trying to get a back link from Under30ceo by writing an article as they are number 1 in Google for the phrase ‘inspiration for success’. That appeared not to be as easy as I thought as my first and second draft of an article were rejected as they didn’t meet their quality standards. So there is a reason why that site is on the top. Apparently they go for quality, indeed meaning something like they want to be the best in the world and don’t accept mediocre articles.

So that made me think about what that means for this site, to be the best site in the world inspiring people for success. And of course I was thinking if they are a competing site or not and I decided they are not, as apparently they focus on success in business, on young people who want to succeed in business, indeed on being the CEO of big companies, while I want this site to have a broader focus, more like an entry point on inspiration for success in different areas, not only financial or in business. And this made me think that it is not as easy as I thought to be ‘best in the world’ with a website if you want to provide quality. It made me also realize to decide on what role I want to play. It seems i am more of an ‘easy’ writer, more of a blogger. I just want to write and let it be, not really a content writer, even though of course I do check my content before finally posting it.

So yes, based on the feedback I got from Under30ceo i realized we need to organize things more, e.g. we need people who can really write quality content on the subjects in this site. So yes, the Master Mind principle seems to be more important than I thought. I like to organize the site, can generate ideas like adding the spiritual success to the original more common ideas of success and can do the more technical stuff, but I’m not sure if I like or am willing to really write organized, researched quality content.

So yes, we need more Master Minds for this site and we have three positions open as of the moment. So if you are interested in being part of this project building the best website on Inspiration for Success, please send an e-mail to info@inspiration-for-success.com in which you describe why you think you should be part of this project and this team, including some vulnerability related to our sample success goal, as I still want that road to success based on the principles of success to be in the open fully, which of course is scary as I guess anybody would have some doubt or fear on realizing such an ambitious goal in the open, no matter how much self confidence he or she has.

Focus

One of the major thing I go ‘wrong’ I guess is on losing focus and probably that’s also where you may have some issues: keep the focus and the priority on you major goals and dreams and don’t get distracted with all kinds of things.

So how do I do that? Well,at the moment I don’t and I’ve been thinking about that for the last few days. Actually there are four major things on my mind:

Money for my daily needs and taking care of existing customers and projects.
The continuation of my business and let it grow as I have stated as part of the plan for my major goal in life.
A major internet project that I have on my mind.
This website and my daily activities related to it.

As I really believe anything is possible in life and as i also believe that I should not come back on decisions I made easily, I am trying to find a way to stick with all four projects that I committed myself to. However, at the moment I am running into some practical issues like money and time..

Ah, and something i never really mentioned, but what is always at the back of my mind is the idea that:

You can achieve less than you think in one year time, but you can achieve more than you think in ten years time. – Unknown

So I guess it is all a matter of planning.

I am sharing this with you as in the end I guess success for me would mean if I succeed in realizing all the things mentioned, so basically 2, 3 and 4.

And what has this to do with inspiring you? Well, if I realize all those things I could indeed say something like anything is possible, like proving it to you. As all this feels quite impossible to me now. And that’s part of what this website is about, inspiring you to go for your goals and dreams and realize them, no matter how big or impossible they are or seem. So I’d better find a way.

Well, still thinking of goals for this website. It kind of started as a spin off of http://op-weg.inspiration-for-success.com/ with the idea of inspiring other people who are on the way of achieving success. Then, with my knowledge of and interest in internet, together with my business that does not do so well at the moment, I was thinking of somehow monetizing this site.

Some other thing on the background was that I want to boost my self confidence with something like to check if people are willing to pay for the work in this website, see if this website has value, see if the work I am putting has value. That is also the background of my donate page.

There is some more background to the donate page, as I would preferred being paid directly and not by putting advertisements in the site or through affiliate programs and such. And that goes back to that I don’t like advertisements in sites in general and the strong commercial push I find in many websites. But it seems that’s how the world works, how the internet business model works: you pay indirectly through those programs. And I know newspapers and t.v. works the same way.

I know one exception though and that is Wikipedia. They insist in being a non commercial site, but the begging type messages I often see in the site also don’t appeal to me.

So the big question is if newspapers, t.v. and this type of sites on the internet can only exist through all kinds of indirect payments? Or through pushing products?

I guess for some people who have visited this site the worth of what they read was more than two dollars. And I guess some of those people might have ended up in my donate page. And looking at the number of hours I have put in the site until now the site is probably worth more a thousand dollars. However, until now, nobody donated one dollar to me yet, or actually paid me one dollar yet for the use of the site.

So of course something to think about for me, like what to do if I want to earn a living with this site or other sites.

But maybe also something to think about for you, do you really want everything for ‘free’?

Last night I was thinking further about my own goals and dreams and this blog. It came to me that I guess I am successful in many ways, but that I don’t consider myself successful at the moment, or at least don’t feel it. So I’m not much of a sample, so how would you believe me.

And yes, a good basketball coach doesn’t need to be a good basketball player, so I could be a coach to inspire people to success, even if I don’t consider myself successful, but still.

Also I realized that part of the reason for this blog is to help me achieve the success I’m still looking for. So why not combine the two goals. So slowly I came up with the idea to relate the success of this blog more closely to the success I’m looking for at the moment, where the success I’m looking for is a monetary goal (and no, my main goal is not about money, but I do need money to achieve it).

Thinking further, as I am getting my current inspiration from Think and Grow Rich, I may want to create a test case and take you with me on the road to success. One of the phrases in the book that inspired me was something like ‘when money (or success) starts to come in, it comes in so quickly that one may be amazed where it has been hiding so long’.

I’m still very hesitant to share what is in my head, as it doesn’t really feel good yet, it feels kind of abusive to you, my readers, even though the idea has been there for a long time already and is also already implicitly in this site and my related site op weg naar success (on the road to success in Dutch).

But again, one of the principles of success is not to be affected or not to be affected too much of what others think, so I’ll just start this. For now, just check the page sample goal.
