Anything is possible

Today I had a meeting related to my project Internet City of the World and somehow that still feels crazy, where also the idea of becoming the third ISP of The Philippines still kind of feels crazy. But strange how it may all sound, somehow I went from just some crazy ideas to at least talking to people and selling the idea. And not just talking to people, but also having convinced somebody to whisper some or all of it in the ears of the president of MUST and maybe the mayor of Cagayan de Oro City.

So yes, strange how things can go from completely crazy, completely impossible, to possible.

So the next would be plausible, probable and realized.

A lot happened

Wow, the last few days a lot of things happened. And I’m not sure how to share all that, as especially I’m late and I need some rest and I still want to do some item from my daily to-do list.

So maybe just a small list of what happened.

Yesterday, Sunday, I realized that I had missed my planning on Saturday. And the reason was that in my mind I had nothing planned for the days around the funeral, but in fact I had. A lot even, including for today. And I was kind of shocked finding that out.

A second thing I found out was that I had planned some goals for June 15 and that I also had not made all those goals, including me not realizing what was the day I planned them as it felt still far away.

So what is good about this. Well, it goes back to what Napoleon Hill says about writing things down, as then you can analyze. And indeed, by having written those things down I can indeed see what is happening, what has happened and as I am so serious now with all those things it makes it  clearer how it all works and being more systematic makes it easier for me to learn better how to plan, how to set goals, and indeed how to reach them. Something like what to do and what not to do and knowing more what works and what doesn’t work.

So yes, what i read somewhere quite some time ago about self help sites and self help books and why they don’t work for most people, may be true. That indeed if you don’t actually DO the things that are written, that are advised, you also don’t get the benefits or the success.

So maybe two things I would advise you to do NOW:

  1. Start with your desire document.
  2. Start with making the bed every day.

And that was another experience today, as sometimes I am scared of my desire document as it all seems too much, too impossible and at those times I don’t read it, don’t even dare to look at it. As I did the last few days.

But today somehow I read it again, and whenever I read it, yes, aloud, I realize it is more and more me, or more and more the me I want to become, or more and more the things I want, the things I want to achieve. It is just me and the current version seems to be stated virtually perfect. And no, I didn’t change the basics, but yes, I made some changes to improve it, to make it more me.

So just start.

Late again

It is late again, but this time a bit a different reason than usual, as for the last few days I have been a bit ill, which meant I couldn’t sleep because my nose was clogged and I was coughing in a very bad way. And even right now I don’t know exactly what to do, as I’m not sure if I can sleep with my cough, even though I feel better than yesterday.

And with this all, even being a bit sick, I feel still very calm and sure about my daily planning, my daily to-do list. As I know I am going to finish it, no matter what. So again, what I think I wrote before one of these days, something has changed, somehow I am more confident, more calm, feel more secure. And it shows also I guess, in private as well as business conversations. As tonight I had a very open discussion about my private life, my private challenges, with someone who I don’t know that long yet and who is actually a business contact, a customer. But she feels good and I am trusting my inner being a lot more now about what to do and whom to trust, contrary to before, where I mostly listened to my partner or other friends about what to do, what to tell and whom to trust.

So there must be some truth in the suggestion of Napoleon Hill to shield yourself from the opinion of other people, especially the people closest to you. As apparently I am starting to do that and it feels good, it feels great and it gives me a more overall feeling of confidence. And there must be something in this discipline and planning thing, like “plan the work and work the plan” as even though my planning is very minimal, just ‘working it’ gives me, again, a feeling of self confidence.

And yes, my partner is gone (again), emotionally as well as physically, but again, the suggestion related to the fear of loss of love to then ‘just do without love’ has made me less vulnerable to all kinds of emotions of despair. And keep in mind, this is still not easy for me, as love, relationship and the related idea of having a home, are the most important things in my life, as they are for most people I guess. But I am also starting to see that the more relaxed and easy I am about this, the more likely it will be that things will be okay. As desperately clinging to your partner or something is probably not something your partner likes.

So yes, despite I was ill and was kind of desperate the last few nights, not being able to sleep and feeling alone, right now I feel pretty good, pretty okay.

So there must be something in all those ideas, those Principles of Success. As since I started working from the book Think and Grow Rich, and yes, also some other books and sites, it seems somehow my life is getting better, at least I have gained a lot of self confidence. And no, I’m not ‘there’ yet. But if there is a road to ‘there’, than I am certainly on a road leading there.

So if you are interested in those principles, you might want to sign up to the tools section of this site and put your score on each of the Principles of Success. As that may give you some insight on what areas in your life you would want to improve, change things.

Patience?

Actually I wanted to write about this yesterday, but somehow the other idea took charge, so what happened to me last Saturday or so needed to wait.

And it wasn’t that special what happened last Saturday, but somehow it also was. And it’s worth thinking about I guess, it’s worth contemplating.

And you may or not know, but for quite a while I have been trying to start with the tools section in this website. Tools like helping you create a desire document or helping you get more clarity on your goals and how to reach them. And me being me I want to build that part of the site in my own way, according to the standards of Active Discovery Designs. As I believe building it in WordPress, according to the WordPress standards, will be too complicated and too time consuming. And next to that I don’t want to depend on the way WordPress is going as I don’t have good experience with Open Source systems when you have to support them, want to maintain them, want to expand them. And don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against Open Source systems as e.g. most of the web servers on the internet are even running on Open Source systems like LInux, PHP and mySQL. And until now this whole site has been built with WordPress according to the WordPress standards.

Anyhow, I didn’t want to talk about Open Source systems and such, but about my experience with something that had been bothering me for weeks already, maybe even months. As I was looking for a way to create a simple signup procedure where you only have to enter your e-mail address and a password to either sign in to this site or to register. And yes, at the same time go to my own, much simpler, way of programming a website, a web application. But I got stuck.

And getting stuck when writing software is quite a common thing, at least for me. Sometimes you ‘just don’t see it’ and you get stuck in some very weird process where you just can’t find the bug, can’t find the error, can’t find why something doesn’t work. And it can keep you busy for days, where in the end the solution is often just one or two lines of code or some very stupid simple programming error. So I got stuck in the problem of automatically logging the user in after signing up, after entering a new e-mail address. And no, this website is not a full time job or something, especially the programming part, but I did spend quite some hours spent over a few weeks to solve this problem. And I couldn’t find it, I just couldn’t find why it didn’t work. And last Saturday I did one small search in Google and suddenly I found the solution as also other people had experienced the same thing. And indeed, also this time the solution took like fifteen minutes or less to implement. And it will take me probably hours to take out all the ‘debugging code’ that I have added to find the problem. But again, I don’t want to talk about software development.

No, I wanted to talk about that sometimes, or even mostly, solutions just ‘come to you’. And that is maybe also what the teachings of Abraham Hicks are trying to tell us. That all the pushing and shoving and hammering that we often do when things don’t work, when we want to put something into place, are not needed or even can have a negative impact. As when I would have just searched in a relaxed way in Google instead of trying and trying and trying to solve this problem I would have saved a lot of time, effort, energy and annoyance. So yes, often stopping and thinking works better than just ‘work, work, work’.

And I remember another sample of a similar situation. As I was on the way to the wake of a friend of mine who had died. And I didn’t know exactly where it was, but the name of the funeral home made me think it was somewhere near a subdivision with the same name. And that subdivision is something like six kilometers away from the city center, the city center where I started my search. And it took me I think even hours to find out I was in the wrong place. While if I would have just asked someone in the city center, where I was, close to the funeral home, I would have saved a lot of time and effort and even money. But no, I just had a wrong perception and was too, well, maybe preoccupied, with what I thought was right, to consider asking.

So better think and ask first, before doing a lot of effort.

It’s not good enough

I still suffer from something like “it’s not good enough”. But it seems I’m working on overcoming that, as today I told myself that some of the things that felt like not being good enough indeed were good enough. Maybe even better than anybody could expect. So I guess it was good enough, as again I did everything I planned for today, even fully finished my to do list, which is basically my planning. But I don’t want to talk about that more today, although when I started this site, this blog, I did research and also ended up in a site that deals with “I’m not good enough”: the site of Morty Lefkoe. And I did the ‘free’ belief elimination a long time ago and I thought it was pretty amazing, so I can certainly recommend that. And no, I didn’t add an affiliate code in the link, even though I think I have one somewhere. As that’s not how I want to receive.

So yes, slowly I am beginning to believe that I am good enough, that I am doing enough every day. And with all the little things I started I somehow made a lot of progress in being more self confident. And that’s what I wanted to share today, some of the little things I did over the last one and a half years, learned from all kinds of sites and books:

  • I make the bed every day. Yes, literally every day. And yes, I think I skipped once or twice because I was not at home or something, but even if I’m somewhere else I’ll still do it. And sometimes I do it late at night, not long before going to bed. But I will still do it. And looking back this must have been the basis for increased discipline. And it has learned me more about how habits work.
  • A second thing I started some time ago was putting one peso (PHP) in a small container. And to not let me or someone else use it when not really necessary I put a small note in it, on top of the coins saying “Please do not touch until the right time”. And the strange thing is that I started this when I had virtually no money at all. And another strange thing is that I never used it, even though sometimes it’s tempting to just get some change or something. Even more strange is that this small container is overflowing right now, so I’ll have to look for a bigger container, and that where I somehow over time decided to put ten pesos every day instead of one peso. So maybe the right time will never come, although today I used my container with coins to explain something to someone who said he couldn’t do something because he had no money.
  • A third thing I did, also quite some time ago, was to stick to decisions. And I started with small ones, small ones like “Shall I get gasoline at the next gasoline station or do it tomorrow or do it before going home or doing it right now or…”, because I was always scared of not having enough gasoline. As those type of decisions took an awful lot of deliberation and energy which seemed kind of crazy to me as they were just something like ‘non decisions’, completely unimportant, but they took me a lot of energy and time. So I started just making decisions like “I’ll do it tomorrow”, or “I’ll do it at that and that gasoline station” or “I’ll do it at the very first opportunity. And I stuck to them. And you know what? Driving got much more relaxed and I never stood without gasoline, even though sometimes my home felt like very far away with the gasoline I decided not to get.
  • And another thing I started to do was making a daily planning, a to do list for one day, sometimes two. And sticking to it, finishing it, no matter what. And that was a big challenge for me, as I used to plan too many things on one day and also at the time I was emotionally very unstable, often leaving me paralyzed, not being able to do anything, literally anything. And the major thing starting it was to just put some very small things on it I was sure I could finish. Sometimes even something like ‘making the bed’ or ‘reading my e-mail’, nothing more. But that was exactly what I wanted to learn: finishing my planning, my to do list.

And of course there are many things on my mind right now, but two thing stand out. The first thing is that I learned to be much more careful with what I planned and how I phrased it. So with my to do list I often state something like ‘maybe do this’ or ‘maybe do that’, especially if it relates to things I need other people for. And the second thing is that I learned that I can really finish the things I planned, the things I decided to do. And it does not matter how small I started with like planning only one day and later a few days ahead. As today I started planning two weeks ahead, for the first time.

So if you have problems doing things, finishing things, my main suggestion is to

Start Small.

As starting with small things you will be able to really do it, really finish it, which in my experience increased my self confidence a lot. And I notice that over time I made things bigger, like going from one peso per day to ten pesos a day. And starting from only making the bed to add some other small things which I was sure I could finish. And from starting a planning in the form of a to do list for one day to extending it to two days and then four days and now two weeks.

So if you are stuck somewhere, being paralyzed or having no money anymore, make sure to start small. But yes, do start.
